After studying art and printmaking in college, Amanda eventually found work doing freelance print production at several San Francisco advertising agencies. She got a staff position at Young and Rubicam and worked there for many years. Seeking more meaningful work she attempted a career change to animation, but was discouraged by an uncertain job market. So she started her own graphic design studio in 2012. In 2014 she expanded her offering to WordPress websites. She is very excited to be back in graphic design and running her own business. She loves the work, with it’s combination of the aesthetic and the functional.

Why Is This Important?

Color is a very powerful tool for branding, for site appeal, or for setting a tone. But creating an attractive, appropriate, functional palette is a little tricky. The range of available colors is large and theoretical discussions of color are not very useful. This will be a discussion of practical strategies for dealing with color.

How Did You Discover WordPress?

When I decided to expand my graphic design practice into web design I looked at many options, from building static HTML sites to using online platforms like Squarespace. WordPress offered the best combination of capability, flexibility and user-friendliness. Discovering the weekly WordPress support group at Tech Liminal in Oakland confirmed that I had made the right choice.
